Poem Summary: Your Article as a Poem
One click turns a blog post into a haiku, a limerick or a rap.
Poem Summary adds a small box to your articles: "Read this article as a poem". Visitors pick a form, an AI model of your choice condenses the post into a short poem, and underneath a note says it is AI-generated, with form, model name and date. The plugin grew out of a playful experiment on meiersworld.de: could a serious technical article be rescued in 17 syllables?
What it looks like
Example (haiku), written with Claude for this plugin:
AI poem (haiku), created with Claude on 14/10/2026.
What it does
- Poem forms to choose from: haiku, tanka, limerick, sonnet, ballad and rap, plus heroic couplets for English articles. German articles also get Elfchen and a shake-rhyme quatrain.
- Your AI provider: Claude, OpenAI, Mistral, Grok, Gemini, OpenRouter or any OpenAI-compatible service, with a connection test in the settings.
- Release per article: you decide in the editor which posts get the box. An obituary does not need a limerick.
- Form check: for haiku, tanka and Elfchen the plugin counts syllables or words and lets the AI correct once.
- Cost brake: poems are cached for 30 days per article revision and form, plus a per-IP hourly limit and a daily cap.
- Labelled: every poem carries a note naming AI, model and date.
- German and English: the language of the box and the poem follows the article (with Polylang, the article language).
Syllable counting is an approximation. Loanwords such as "cache" are miscounted, and AI models are unreliable at counting syllables anyway. If you need exactness, leave haiku and tanka out in the settings.
What you need
- WordPress 5.8 or newer, PHP 7.0 or newer
- Your own API key from an AI provider
You bear the costs yourself. The plugin is free, but the AI requests run through your own API key and are billed by your provider according to its price list. meiersworld.de receives nothing from this and sees neither your key nor your bill. It is wise to set a spending limit with your provider before enabling the box on many articles.
Installation
- Download the ZIP from the latest release. Please take the file
poem-summary.zip, not "Source code". - In WordPress: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP, install and activate.
- Open Settings → Poem Summary: pick the AI provider, enter the API key (and, except for Anthropic, the model name), tick content types and poem forms, save, then test the connection.
- Open a post in the editor, tick Enable poem box under Poem Summary in the sidebar, update. Done.
Instead of the settings page you can store the key as the constant MW_PSM_API_KEY
(ANTHROPIC_API_KEY for Anthropic) in wp-config.php. That is safer,
because it then does not sit in the database.
Privacy
- When a visitor clicks the poem button, your server sends the title and roughly the first 6,000 characters of the article to the AI provider you chose. That provider's privacy terms apply to this transfer, including third-country rules for providers outside the EU. No visitor data is transmitted.
- A visitor's IP address is cached only as a hash for the hourly limit.
- Please mention the feature in your privacy policy.
